Recently i have started to mentor an year 7. During these sessions i can help him out with any problems he is having and help him with any other issues he is struggling with. The main thing he has been struggling with is organisation. During the past 2 sessions i have had with him i have spent time finding out what his interests are and basically getting to know him. We have also completed his homework, i thought it would be a good idea to complete in these sessions as it will save him from doing it at home and he will not get detentions for not doing it. I enjoy doing this as i know i am helping someone out who may be struggling with certain things, hopefully these meeting will have an impact on him and help him with whatever he needs. I want him to feel comfortable with talking to me about anything, this is why i took the time to get to know him on our first session.

I have been mentoring for a good couple of months now and i feel like it is really paying off. I mentor the year 7 every week on a Tuesday, the sessions last for about 20 minutes. In this time we talk about many things such as how was their weekend, what they have been getting up too etc. But we also use this time to complete their homework. The year 7 i am mentoring struggles with organisation, so to help him with this i have suggested many ideas to help him. For example i suggested getting a folder to put all his completed homework in so it is all in one place and will not get lost. I have seen a change in the year 7 since i have started mentoring as he does not get as many detentions and completes his homework all the time now.
